Slope Rating System - Read and respond please!
FYI, Lou Dawson and Andrew MacLean are revising the old S rating system for judging the difficulty of a slope.
It is a great effort, and should result in more standardized and detailed ratings in the various backcountry or sidecountry guide books.
Unfortunately, in my opinoin, I think it is harder to memorize and not very easy to see at a glance what the slope is like.
In that regard, I was hoping that those of you that care might have a loook at the new system and vote whether you like it better than the old system.
(note: a vote for the old system does not mean that it will not be improved, just that it is more intuitive and should be the basis for a revised system).
here is the original S system
here is the new D system
here is a discussion of the systems

So this is what human interraction is like. Somehow it is not as satisfying as my therapist said it would be. Perhaps it is better in person?

D system is screwy in that a higher number doesn't seem to always indicate a more difficult descent. I like the S system. But I'd prefer half a sentence along with the slope angle.
eg:
45 for 3000 feet with cliff below.
50 for 300 feet, 40-45 below, no crevasses.
etc.
