So apparently you pay $1000 for STANDBY placement. If the heli is full, you don't fly. I'm guessing that means you will need to go during the slower season meaning less chance of good weather or less chance of good snow. Also, as the lowest paying folks on the heli, you probably have less say in where you ski.Originally Posted by blurred

For better or worse I just booked it for our group. I talked to the owner Matt & he made it sound like we would ski more vert then the package the last week of April. We bought 2 packages each for six days & 50K vert + lodging & meals for $2k each including tax. We are bringing touring gear if we somehow get skunked. Costco stands behind everything they sell so I am not too worried about it. I will post a TR in May when we get back with a review.

You should be very careful with heli camps. i have skied alot up in Valdez and i have heard nothing but negative comments regarding them. I know they shut down early last year, apparently they ran out of money, so be careful about your late season reservation. I looked into the costco deal, but after asking around, it didnt sound like that good of a deal.

25000 vert is 5 runs, a typical day at ABA is 30,000 (6 runs) vert for $700 a hotel and food is for two people is about $200 a day- lavish by Valdez standards. Thats $900 per day per person.
If you want to heli ski in valdez, get an RV park at Thompson Pass or across the street at ABA. And pay to play and ski gnar. If the weather opens for 3 hours ABA is on it, you can get one run drops, very flexible, very chill and the nicest guys in the world run the place. If the weather never lifts you dont spend a dime. You just tour thompson pass or do road runs.
