    The "Official" Vail/Eagle Thread 08/09

Since these official threads are all the rage I figured we might as well start another.

Inbounds, East Vail, Vail Pass, Beaver Creek, etc. Pics, conditions, meet-ups, and the like.

Today was pretty good, although I heard yesterday was alot better. Started nuking this afternoon and they closed everything in the back around 1ish. The snow has been on and off, but probably will be at least 6" of new tomorrow since 1pm today.

Gear related: Anyone planning on skiing Vail in the next few days have any cheap skis for my roommate? He finally got a pass and has been dying to ski and has been trapped on the ice coast for a while and has no skis. He is pretty big and can handle just about any ski. Looking for something at least 185 and 95+ underfoot with binders that will fit a 339 BLS. Beat to shit, coreshots, missing edge, whatever. The cheaper the better.

No kidding, today was bitter. I was happy to get off and rest instead of ski so much. 8 days in a row is a lot for a flatlander. I think I'll be around tomorrow.

Sorry I missed this thread when you started it.

I was on Vail pass at dawn today with Dave B. He should have a pic or two. Above black lakes. Stuck to low angle, but I did get a good look at those slabs that you can see from the road when you drive by. Same place it always slides on the top tier where it is so wind loaded. The interesting thing is that I saw separate slides that slid different ways, one on the ground and one on a layer about 18" down. Seem to be more than one way to get in trouble.

Also it was brutal cold and blowing snow sideways. I always pretend I'm on Mt Everist when it gets like that. Loved it.

Assuming they re-open them, the bowls and BSB should be sweet tomorrow with lots of snow moving around from the wind.

Thanks man. My roommate is working a pretty brutal 7pm-6am shift now so I don't know if he will be trying to ski this week but I will let him know.

I gotta drive tonight and Saturdays usually = driving hammereds all over Eagle county till 4am so unless it snows a ton I wont be up early. PM me your digits.

I heard on the radio of a new operation where the drunks get driven home in their own vehicles. Sounds pretty sweet.

Tomorrow will be titties. Backside closed at noon. Talked to Dir. of Patrol that said BSB and the bowls will be open. Lots of bombs going off.

Today was probably the best inbounds pow day I have ever had at vail. 13" reported was 22"+ in the usual stashes. Waited like 3 minutes max at chair 5 (which can be an hour wait). Blackout days + the pass being closed = nice and empty mountain. Should have had some camera people out. Sun came out for like 20 minutes while we were enjoying legit overhead faceshots.

    Thanks Ullr!

I think that sums it up nicely. I tried to take a few shots but my cam was jacked when some snow leaked its way into my pack. It's drying now.

You getting out the rest of the week?

PS - It's not blackout dates yet, or I'm special because I got in with my Brahlorado Pass.

Sorry I missed you guys in the line up. The East Vail busses were packed and I couldn't shove my way on.

Didn't get going till 8:45 but waited in zero lines all day today. Deep everywhere. There was still plenty of fresh in the trees at 2:30. I'm worked but will out again tomorrow.

There will be leftovers. The one usual stash that we were sessioning still had plenty of room for more tracks tomorrow.

Should be up tomorrow, but no idea what time. Mint suit, tahoes.
