Wood closing 5/2, Party at the top of Once

Well all good things must come to an end. The Wood is closing tomorrow, May 2, at 2pm. There's going to be a rager at the top of Once right after. So be sure you get your butts up there before the chair shuts down. Needless to say they're running 10. 5 is open too since the park is reprasentin mad steeze yo!

Speaking of Once is Enough, Spats and I hit it today at closing. There's about 10 feet missing at the top, and you have to jump over a rotten crevase to get to a platform to put your skis on. Spats went first and yelled up, "It's sweeeet like butta! Hit it!" I was freaking out though, not because of the run. But I was worried I would come up short on the leap of faith and fall into the man sized snow rot. Luckily I made it, popped the skis on, and dropped in. He was right, it was total butter on the way down and out. I hung a left and ran it all the way out past Heart, sorta under Jong Chute. What a blast, and a perfect way to end a good day.

So get your asses out there tomorrow, ski some corn, and drink some beers to close out a killer season.

You Kirkweed bitches better get your asses up here for closing!!!

Fun-ass crew today led by Splat. Me, Arty, Lego, Divegirl, DJSapp, Spats, and nightpanda ("The most dangerous grom in skiing") scoring sweet corn of Wall the whole time. 11am-2pm is just fucking the shit. Perfect soft corn.

After that lph took me, Arty, Spats and his bud on a quick loop on the Corral trail for some singletrack steeze.

Perfect spring day...Corn in the morning, singletrack in the afternoon, Beer and Sushi coming up soon....

Sound like yesterday was a blast for you guys....and I'm bummed I hafta miss closing day...oh well. It's 2:09 PM right now....you guys are all probably up at the top of Once....

Had a sweet day of BC skiing yesterday though with Greydon and Crazy Aussie #1 at Ebbett's Pass. A total exploratory mission to scout out Silver Peak and Glider Couloir (at least a 5 hour approach[/i]), Highland Peak (there's at least half a dozen 2,000 ft chutes here), and Noble Canyon / Pass Ridge which is where we primarily skied. We left our car at about 9-ish and didn't get back until 4:30. The corn was ripe on all aspects for the entire freaking day....never seemed to rotten up, which was nice.

Close. We dropped in around 20 after. The party either hadn't started or it wasn't much of anything. There were maybe a dozen people up there, us not included. In any case, Pu, Spats, hardrider, and I all cracked some beers and toasted to a great season. Then we ripped the shit out of Once...with an audience. I feel like such a slut.

Nothing like leaving your hill on closing day with a killer last run and a shit eating grin.

My debt to all of the Wood crew just keeps on growing. Thanks for an amazing year!

The snow was great today, too. Hung out with the guys, but bailed early. I refuse to acknowledge last runs and last days.
S'all good. But god, I can't believe another season has slipped away so fast [tear in my eye].

    South America planning starts now!

Last runs and last days are one thing. But who said anything about the season being over? Alpine and Mammy are still up and running, plus there's this little place called the Eastern Sierra.

I read with envy. My season finished on 15th March (also at Kirkwood). I've been for some time.

Any PT jobs going in the area?

If you're really interested, I see postings quite frequently for PT jobs in the area.

    Kirkweed 03/04 season
    Nov. 15, 2003 - May 2, 2004
    (Thanks for all the mammaries)

The first weekend of May was a happy and sad one. The 03/04 season lasted almost 6 months. It seemed just like yesterday that the Kirkweed Krew were celebrating the opener.

Saturday was a fun packed day led by Splat. Sweet corn all over the Wall with a fun crew. On the last run one of the head 'troller tells us "Enjoy it! We're closing tomorrow!".

    Stage 1. Denial.
"No! That 'troller is talking out of his ass! Cokehead said it's open 'til the end of May. Right? RIIIIGHT?!?!?!?!?!"
"Yeah! It'll be open. He's WRONG! We're RIGHT"

    Stage 2. Anger
"GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! How can they close this! Look at all the fucking coverage! AAARRRGGGHHHHHH"
(Pic: An Angry ride up chair 10)
    https://www.tetongravity.com/usergall...l_DSC01481.JPG

    Stage 3. Bargaining.
"Please stay open! I'll even pay $20 for a lift pass"

    Stage 4. Depression.
    "Waaaaaaah!!! Boo-hooohoohooo!!!!"

    Stage 5. Acceptance
    https://www.tetongravity.com/usergall...l_DSC01482.JPG
Spats, Arty, Hardrider and yours truly, accepting the truth with a little help from some beer

    Scoping out the entry:

    Hardrider drops in

    ....followed by Arty

Then I was up to bat.
    https://www.tetongravity.com/usergall...l_DSC01489.JPG

It was SICK. Hadn't ran it all year. The buzz was insane, and you weren't quite sure if the shadowy section was still corn or had started to crust up.

Spats- How did you and Jim go? Did anyone ever do it switch? I bet there would have been carnage up there in the following hour as the rest of the party people hit it up after some beers.

I'll probably try and get a couple more days at Mammoth, but if not, here's to a summer of surfing, mountain biking, and poontang.

Either a slight breeze is blowing up his shirt or we need to get hardrider away from that pizza shop.

5/1 was sooooo much fun!! Skiing with about 8 maggots, I mean, what can get better than that? The entire day was so $$$ - and Splat was there, which made skiing THAT much more exciting and interesting! There couldn't have been a better final day at the Wood. Too bad I missed the OIE party, would've loved to see that. I just had a really great time skiing with all of you. Looking forward to next year. Oh, and for the record.....there is still SO much coverage at K-wood, the lifts should stay open until memorial day. Here's to hoping they'll reopen for a weekend or two.

I eyeballed Carnel's thinkin they might have had the access open to go pinch it, but it was closed. Looks like it's getting pretty bony as of yesterday, still some good snow on the next entry toward Vista and lots of snow below.

I picked my non-maggot buddy Jim up in Sacto and headed up for closing weekend. We followed the sun around from Eagle Bowl to the Nose to the Wall to Notch and OIE, picking up magnions on every run.

Grins all around. So many good turns, so many good times.

"I've got a great idea! Now that we're all burnt out from skiing, let's go RIDE!" The Corral singletrack was so worth it. Not pictured: Spats and his rented MBX dual-squish that wouldn't shift onto the little ring.

Also not pictured: Arty, SuPu, myself, and Jim eating $130 of sushi afterward.

Day 2: A smaller but still serious crew sacks up for the last day of the season.
