Favorite ski movie of this past fall's releases?

Sorry if this thread has already been done. Searched and didn't find anything.

    What I have seen:

    Seven Sunny Days
    Idea
    Lost & Found
    Skimatic
    Real Time
    PNW

    My Favorite:

    Real Time

I really didn't expect so much from this film. The skiing isn't the most insane, but the overall style, attitude, editing, and music just make it all click. Most importantly is that it really just made me stoked to be a skier. There is quite alot of urban rail footage, which I'm sure turns alot of the older skiers off, but I really enjoyed it alot. Actually, really want to start shooting rails this year. I also love the fact that there is so much Colorado footage, since CO is pretty much always overlooked by all the other ski films. The Brighton footage is fucking sweet as hell....beautiful snow that flows like water.

    you?

    edit to add PNW

it wasnt your typical ski movie, but I did enjoy Steep.
there were a couple things I didnt quite feel had a place in that movie, but I appreciated the perspective and the theme.

of course ive only seen l&f and ssd so I dont know about the others.

edit, forgot about it, but one more for the sublimation experiment. really enjoyed that one too.

PNW was very good. As was Kong Vinter IV.

Saw PNW, Seven Sunny Days, Lost and Found, and Wanderland.

Enjoyed Seven Sunny Days the most. Really good music and some great editing made for a very good film; I was also really partial to some of the helmet cam stuff that they are doing- first time I actually kind of enjoyed the park/pipe segments.

    I bought this year:

    Believe
    Idea
    The Sublimation Experiment
    8 years later

I dug all of them. I wanted something new this year with a little more emphasis on "small" skiing (i.e. not everything heli accessed shit that I can't get to) and to that end I was psyched to have new choices. I really like seeing people ripping through trees and skiing pow...not just shots, from a distance, of a big Alaskan peak. Also, no rails and urabn footy was key for my enjoyment. Not dissing anyone else's tastes I am just not into that scene.

Believe was my favorite. Great sound track, some great pow shots and the right length.

One more comment... I have never watched a ski film that was enhanced, at all, by someone talking about skiing. This seems to be a tough concept for people who make ski films to grasp. I know why I like skiing. I know the sacrifices I make to chase my passions. I am not really super interested in anyone's else's feelings about skiing.

Here is an example of good talking in a ski film: "We were in the Revelstoke Backcountry. It snowed three feet in two days. Bobby and Jimmy were with me." Cut to skiing.

Here is an example of bad talking: "I just love the freedom of the mountains and I am just really trying to progress the creativity of expression on the mountain as my canvas......blahhhhhhhh" Cut to same skiing shot.

I don't know if its just me, but I thought last years crop was a little better, especially with MSP. I liked Idea and Lost and Found the best though.

The Sublimation Experiment - KGB Productions

This one was the ski film for the rest of us. Great job with it, and I really enjoyed it.

SAVE: Good movies, decent skiing, lacked in the artistic style I came to expect from Plehouse after the last few. Have a slight problem with the global warming theme, if you are going to base your movie off it in an industry that is so dependant, then you owe it to your audience to also pursue and offer some answers. They still flew to destinations and used sleds, so really haven't done anything themselves except for shoot in garbage dumps.

    IDEA: Great lines, good flow

BELIEVE: Great lines, good flow, needs more poles

SSD: Looked like purchased segments from other films, best part was the human wing suits. Same old

YEAH DUDE: Tried too hard, commentary was annoying, same shots as SSD (seriously think both just bought freelance this year)

WANDERLAND: Favourite. Its real, original and raw. No million dollar heli shoots, just skiers doing their thing on fully accessible stuff

Lost and Found had two moments that really got to me: The paraplegic skier hitting some fantastic lines, and the enormous front flip...

Steep hit me in a special place. So far, I consider it to be the best ski movie of all time.

Everyone in Believe had poles and it was my favorite movie of the year. Everything about it was money!

Seven Sunny Days on the other hand was terrible. The music was weak, the park segments were boring and the overall skiing was pretty average for a ski movie.

Lost and Found I'd put just a notch below Believe.

Really liked Seven Sunny Days and Lost and Found. I liked Lost and Found better than Anomaly. I was also surprised to really like Believe. Thought it was going to be mostly park, etc. I liked Wanderland (being that I live in the EC), but would've liked a little less urban skiing.

As a side note, I still think Soul Purpose is the best TGR film with Tangerine Dream coming on close 2nd.

I saw a lot of the films this year (thanks to going to The Meeting) and here's what I liked in order:

    Believe
    Real Time
    Steep
    Idea
    Enjoy
    Lost and Found
    Linescore
    Seven Sunny Days
    Yeah Dude
    Redemption

I purchased Believe, Real Time, and Enjoy and am happy with that decision.

I will likely purchase Sublimation Experiment at some point because I really want to see it. That and the one about ski mountaineering in the Tetons.

Still waiting to see Steep. I seem to leave towns the minute before it shows up. Looking forward to it the most. Idea and Lost & Found were probably my top two of what I have seen.

Here here! I want a ski movie to be something I'll buy and watch repeatedly for stoke. When movies interview skiers, it just always falls flat and makes me hate re-watching those segments. I'd rather they let the skiing do the talking. One of best things about Idea was that it no narration. As simple a concept as movies can get, but it worked really well. I think even sub titles like old silent movies had before scenes would be cooler than hearing most skiers explain what their season was like or why they ski or telling a dumb aside that falls flat the second time you hear it.

Not just the Tetons, but also some good stuf up here in Alaska, and some British Columbia.

What I liked about the Sublimation Experiment was how it had some great skiing sequences with talented skiers who WEREN'T these hollywoodized "pros." They were just a bunch of regular schlubs like me.

And then the filmakers also focused on the environmental aspect of development, the changing landscape of the American West, and how to reconcile trying to "live the dream" as a non-pro (i.e. 99percent of us) and the financial realilties and sacrifices made to do so.

Not to mention a great soundtrack that they include on a seperate CD when you buy the DVD.

It may look a shade amatuerish at times, but I do think it was my favorite ski movie this year.

from a pure skiing stand point i found lost and found to be of the highest quality, but the music really brought it down for me.

as for seven sunny days, i appreciate the pack i won at the premiere, but there was way way too much filler in that movie (although the squirrel suit stuff was sick, shane bond, the sled jump, excessive artsy shots in ingrids segment make it hard to rewatch the whole thing).

believe was solid pow and great music, but tanner still just annoys me (think his "conversation" in AK)

PNW was fun and i enjoy seeing the local stuff.

wanderland had way too much urban for my liking, but if your into that sort of thing they are innovative on the rails. I just wish there was more solid east coast skiing in it. the only good powder shots arent even from real mountains. snow gods, from last year, was much better.
