Some days things just seem to click. Skiing with a crew that rips and gets along very well is key. Rolled up to the Basin today to ski with D-side, Summit, and Z. Summit decided to eat corn chips and sit at his computer for the first hour while D-side, Z, and I ducked into the fingers/steep gullies and poached the goodness. Buttery smooth turns....I think by the time we were done, D-side had added up our combined fines for rope ducking and general law breaking to be around $36,000. Sounds good to me, lets try a gate. We finally ended up finding Summit in a dusting of corn chip crumbs, and we headed to the goods. On our way there, ran into Telekoptero and his girlfriend. His girl hurt her knee on the next run to the chair, hope things turned out ok.
We made the 30 minute trek out to the goods. (that's about enough time for 54 jokes about Platypus Prince)
I was enjoying the view when some kook decided to take my picture
Another beautiful shot of Summit County and the Ten Mile Range.
Well, in case you didn't know, D-side and Z just came off some kickass performances on the Colorado Freeride series last week. These guys were feeling confident and were anxious to get into some terrain. Both of them were all about this pillow line, but there was only enough snow for one of them. I think they Roshamboed or some shit, but either way, D-side banged it. I saw this line from the top, the shelf these guys wanted to land on wasn't big at all. These cats are feeling it.
Here's D-side getting rad
Z is after a line in this same area that involves pillows the size of postage stamps above a rocky spine full of exposure. Like I said, these guys are feeling it. Can you say "Caw"?
I was after something I'd been thinking about for a while a little bit further down the ridge. You may remember this post of mine-

Well, I've been wanting to hit this line from the very top for quite some time. Today was the day. Summit got in place for the pics, and it was tee time.
Zoomed in pic-dropping in
The sequence
The sequence doesn't show me pausing at the top trying to figure out my line, but I was very happy with it.
It's days like today that remind me why I ski. The sense of accomplishment after a line like that is incredibly fulfilling. <---read euphoric!
What an awesome crew today as well. Maggots fucking rule. Very cool being around people I really enjoy skiing with. Props to Summit for carting the camera gear around, taking sweet pics as always, brushing off the corn chip crumbs, and editing/sequencing the pics.![]()
