    Learning Spanish in Bariloche

I just had the chance to spend a week on the Powell Glacier with two great folks from Bariloche, Argentina . . . and it turns out that they can likely be great resources for anyone planning a trip!

Maria runs Spanish in the Mountains, teaching personalized Spanish lessons in a variety of customized environments (i.e. at Refugio Frey after a day of ski touring!). I've had a number of friends take lessons from Maria and her counterparts and all have been super happy . . . a great way to get tied into the Bariloche community as well, if that's what you're interested in. She is truly an amazing person and super fun to hang out with!

Jorge is a mountain guide and owns AndesCross - so if guided ski touring, volcano climbing/skiing, or any other mountain adventure is your forte, look him up! He's definitely on of the most motivated and enthusiastic skiers I know . . . and absolutely obsessed with powder! Gotta love it

Anyhow, I know this is sorta spam, but since it's Argentina trip planning season, I thought I'd throw out some good resources.

    Happy turns

i met jorge and maria at frey last summer. they radiate stoke

part of a very different bariloche ski scene, which you don't get to see much as a gringo.

Kellie, it's pretty much damn near impossible to hate you. But I'm trying really hard right now.

    Hugs,

What a tease! And here I thought Kellie was leaving for Bariloche in a few weeks! I am trying, just like Arty50 to channel that hate- but it's really hard because we like you

You know it's a good day when you get hugs and smooches on the internet! I heart Squirrel and Arty!!! It's odd, however, that they want to hate me!

I don't think Bariloche is in the cards this year, but let's not kid ourselves: stranger things have happened!

The really cool thing about learning spanish in Argentina is that you will have a wicked italian accent!

ELA, how long will you guys be in Bariloche? Back to LL for winter, or mixing things up a bit? I'm tempted to try an October trip and go someplace new, but am wondering if this is the year or not . . .

And Squirrel, they ordered the Avalache before I could get there and do things right . . . quasi tragedy.

Craig Ross of Andescross.com is also a great guy. We ran into him a few times guiding some groups out of Catedral and in town.

Doremite - make sure you go to the Berlina brewery, it's out of town about 10 km along the lake road.

    Kellie,

B-town is our new home, para siempre!

The plan is late Sept. until the end of season at LL. Can't do another year in Las Leñas until they replace that damn chair and pull their heads out. We have many a volcano in these parts on the spring hitlist. You should come further south, you won't regret it. Your idol and I would love to show you around.

    PNW:

Thanks for the brewery tip. You are speaking my language. May try to track you down close to trip time. Any info on great places to eat/drink/ski more than welcome.

...made it out to Crystal this past January. Was highly impressed.

Hopefully this year we can meet up for a beer, bitch about Lenas management and share some of your local knowledge?

8/23 - 9/11 we're going to be lowering the tone of the neighborhood while staying at a friend's house at Arlequin

Awww that sucks...living in Alaska...skiing huge lucious gorgeous dreamy mouthwatering peaks...

Just kidding. What a bummer that it avy'd.

And speaking of SA, I'd love to go again this year but it just ain't in the cards. I'm with ELA too. While Lenas is radtastic and I've been relatively lucky there with lifts and such, I'm sold on basing out of Bariloche in the future.

Just to clarify, the Avalanche is the name of a pizza which is not the world-famous Thai Chicken pizza that has been proven to make me excessively happy.

And yeah, Alaska does suck. Never come here again.

ELA, stop tempting me!!!! I'd love to do a volcano/river/rock trip - seems like Bariloche is a great place to have a multidisciplinary trip! Wow, I just used a 7-syllable word on TGR!

Kellie, a picture from your base camp from this afternoon. Look at it as a business trip. See you this spring.

Arty, I tihnk you are on to something. LL has, with the possible exception of La Grave, the best lift served terrain of any one lift in the world. It also is the windiest ski resort in the world and has the most outdated and inept lift system to combat those winds. Factor that in with retarded mountain management and you get LL in a nut shell.

Add me to the "Lenas rules, but Bariloche... rules" list. If/when I head back down there, that's where I'm spending my time.

Beautiful town, amazing Bife de lomo jugoso at Albertos, helado de los dios at Jauja, and there's skiing too or so I hear.

Perhaps this'll just have to happen . . . thinking mid-October and early November . . . volcanoes, rock, dirt, and river

    Oh yeah, and beer/wine/beef too!
