07-08 Alaska ski conditions and TR's thread (w/pics)

I don't care if TT already has one of these threads, we need one to, it would be great if AK folks could step up and share what they've seen. Let's make a more tolerant SKI minded thread. (Bushco TR's always welcome though)

Things have been rolling right along, and it just seems to have been getting better and better for the lat sfew weeks up at Hatchers.

last week on north facing higher to mid elevation slopes we saw about 2-3ft with a few well bonded buried depth hoar layers and a leftover well bonded ground layer. Then saturday cleared with little less than a foot of mildly wind effected light fluff, which loaded in spots but stayed pretty frikkin soft. The new stuff was sluffing on the sun crust and, from what we saw, holding pretty well everywhere else.

There were awesomely deep fluffy pockets on some of the north facing stuff, but still pretty thin down low, especially on the frontside.

    Here's from the last week.

With all this skier compaction in A bowl resort, we won't have to worry about a thing.

I had a fun, creative TR all typed up and the stupid thing timed me out. so I went this route instead.

The one of the dog chasing behind you down the slope is awesome! Something to do with the sense of motion of the dog. I wanted to repost it when I saw it but I won't since it's already been done twice. I always wanted to know if anyone who skis with their dog has ever been on a slope that was too steep for the dog? Or has there been some kind of situation that the dog could not navigate?

She hauls ass down almost anything, I've taken her on 2500ft knee deep 40+ degree exposed heli style slopes, and she just frikkin booked it down. on that day I had a friend hold her up so she would be minute behind me, just in case anything went wrong. The season before that, her first year, she took off waaay to fast and almost got dragged over a cliff band when my sluff grabbed her, she barely swam out in time. I honestly think she likes the down as much as we do, she starts going apeshit as soon as I click in at the top.

BTW thats my buddy making the turns, I'm behind the lens.

I'm waiting for the rehab on my shoulder to be such that the doc will OK this stuff again. Should be another month, by which time we'll have more snow, but no light...

Way to rip the early turns in Hatcher!

I've taken my dog out (He's a Tall Siberian Husky) on days that were simply too deep for him. I don't think he's ever been on something too steep and he is solid on 40+ degree slopes. However, when its more than about 20 inches of snow. It's just too much work for him. I feel like he's not enjoying it anymore. He has to walk up in the skin track and can't lead and he hates that and on the down he'll actually book down my or a buddy's ski track. Once we're a the top regardless of conditions he starts getting all agitated and excited when the skins come off and we are clicking in.

I won't repost that pic with the dog following you, but it's incredible. Great pictures....

Also, with the site timing out...not sure if others do this, but in my couple TRs I've made I just assemble it in Word and then post it up...
