    Endorsement of BobMc's auto shop

A few weeks ago as it warmed up I noticed that the A/C in the truck wasn't working. I went out of town and had my wife take it in while I was gone to a shop close to home (not BobMC's shop). They said it needed a new compressor and quoted me $1,083. We waited and when I got back I took it to Bob. He said the compressor was fine and it just needed a recharge and it would only cost $160. Well I was obviously really happy to hear that, but the my experience with Bob and his work got even better. I couldn't find a ride out to West Valley to pick it up so his wife came to my house in Sandy and picked me up. I knew going out to WVC was a good move and that I could trust Bob to do it right and be honest - something that the other shop couldn't handle. Thanks Bob. All Utah mags go to Bob when you need car work (if you didn't already know that). It is easily worth the drive to WVC for a top notch mechanic that you can trust.

I'll second or third or whatever that endorsement. Bob's solid, and he even sends a Christmas card.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

A good mechanic is invaluable. Good on you Bob.

I don't live in the area, but maybe people would be interested in knowing who the original shop was that was either (1) ignorant or (2) disingenuous.

Where is it?? I live in Sandy and work in West Valley...would make dropping off and picking up easy since I work here...new to area and certainly need a mechanic sometimes..

    Address or telephone # please.

    Thanks.

The real reason you go there is to hang out with Chompers.
You can cut me off from the civilized world. You can incarcerate me with two moronic cellmates. You can torture me with your thrice daily swill, but you cannot break the spirit of a Winchester. My voice shall be heard from this wilderness, and I shall be delivered from this fetid and festering sewer.

Thanks for the kind words from everyone.

I really enjoy helping people with their automotive needs, granted I like the money as well.

But, I do feel crappy about the industry at times, like seeing David almost being taken for a ride. I certainly hope the shop that quoted the compressor replacement was merely inept rather than criminal. I've always liked to think most businesses and technicians were honest folks doing their job. Since hearing horror stories from the experiences of customers with other places, I'm beginning to wonder.

I still think the percentage of dishonest shops is pretty low, and I like to think the percentage of inept shops is fairly low. But, who knows?

    Thanks again,

    BobMc

I was recently quoted $800+ for a catalytic converter repair on a 2003 Corolla to meet state emissions in Utah. I had the job done, and the shop (Master Muffler) came back with a price of $300.

    That was a nice suprise.

But I forgot about Bob's shop, and thanks for the reminder. It's nice to "know" the person you're giving a bunch of money to.
