    Subby WRX STI

    Anyone have one? Anyone exceptionally knowledgeable about them. I am a pretty dedicated gear-head and have done my due dilligence and am pretty impressed.

    Pros:
    (1) Fast as shit on greased tits, 300hp, 2.5l turbo, 0-60 under 5 seconds;
    (2) Mileage decent if I am not constantly stomping on it;
    (3) Leg and trunk room considering how sport focused it is. Brough my two 6'3'' buddies along for a test drive, with me at the healm at 6'3'', and all of us fit pretty well.
    (4) Large trunk;
    (5) All wheel drive, for the snow, with a differential that I can manipulate to throw more power in the rear;
    (6) Still very driveable in urban settings;
    (7) Parts, repair and service are not near as high as cars of anywhere similar performance;
    (8) Good warranty.

    Cons:
    (1) That whale of a spoiler that makes me look like I live in mom's basement and can't get enough anime porn and star trek figurines;
    (2) See #1

    What am I missing? Obviously much is subjective but any experiences with these guys?

    Cons pretty much nail it, although you left out the snout ... er, grille.

    I've seen STIs post-spoilerectomy (a black one near me has the license plate "STEALTHST"), and once you do that, they only look as ugly as your average everyday Impreza -- which is to say, ugly but not quite fugly). Also, Subaru sold a spoilerless STI as a limited edition for a bit, but they were (not surprisingly) hard to get a hold of.

    Being in Seattle as well, I've always thought that STI's (as sweet as a performer that it may be) shouts "This is how I compensate for my inability to attract women." And not by coincidence do I see lots of them at Mickeysoft near my work in Redmond. Racer-car yes...Little-boy image...even more.

    Now have you seen the new G35x (AWD)? That is a beautiful ride!! Something like now 306-hp, too...

    Cons:

    Bandit Man might make fun of you.

    Seriously, for the price there isn't a much better performing car out there (except the EVO)

    And yes the G35 is tres sexy!

    I have been looking for one of the limited's--sunroof, less offensive rear spolier and leather. I almost don't mind the stigma in light of the performance. I couldnt stop giggling when I was driving it today.

    have you driven a Legacy GT? Slightly less power but way less racer boy style. If I had the coin I'd really like a Legacy GT wagon.

    edit: there's probably a bunch of rally racing parts under the hood that you don't get with the legacy also but how often are you gonna notice those items missing?

    hope your buying used or 07. no more gt wagon in US for '08

    if your a gear head, put it to use with a GT or XT. $1,500 in parts, maybe less, will get at or above STI hp/torque. Same engine, different tuning/turbo/intercooler/cats(or lack there of).... 08 GT/XT's might only have 2 cats now. Mine has 3 (atm....2 hopefully will be coming off this summer). '08 MT's are now 6 speeds too IIRC

    But the true test is, does he have a girlfriend?

    STI are go-carts on steriods. Once you turn 30, you should look at something else. Also, where the heck in Seattle are you going to ever get a chance to enjoy a car like that? At 2 a.m. driving across I-90 on Lake Washington? Also, the thought of that clutch in traffic would not be fun...

    I'm not buying at all because I'd rather spend my money on beer, skis and bikes but thanks for the info.

    Are they still going to offer the legacy gt sedan?

    Mazdaspeed6 could be a very good option too -- same price range, also AWD.

    all wagons are outbacks now (XT option)

    all sedans are legacy (no more outback sedan, GT option)

    the 6 cyl is now available in the outback or legacy sedan (which was basically what the outback sedan was, except with trim and bigger tires/suspension)

    AWD in the sense that it's FWD until it slips. Probably better gas mileage because of it, but you also get torque steer IRRC

    I was tooting about that car back when everyone was still drooling over the 350z. Now that people are all on the bandwagon, it's time to find another car to be passionate about.

    You mean, like the Subie? (yes, Virginia, Subaru uses an FWD-biased system.)

    Correct. STI Manuals run a 50/50 split normally (I think) and have adjustable center diff.

    I prefer the LGT way over the STi and infact I like the regular WRX over the STi too, it is a more playful car.

    Sorry -- I stand corrected. But with the exception of the STI manual, I think I'm right.

    No. All the manuals are 50/50, but you only get the adjustable center diff. on the STI.

    It was popular enough that you can ask that it not come with the spoiler.
    There are two (one is dealer owned the other was on the lot for a few months) down in Rhode Island.

    you nailed it. the big rally wing is ghey lookin. I drive an 04 silver wrx, not the sti. However i could go for the extra 70 hp and better tuned suspension.

    I love my car. I dont have the DCCD (center diff) but i sledom slip even on the worst of roads. A good set of snow tires are the iceing on the cake. They are really fun cars, safe, and somewhat effiecient. I only get 19mpg on winter gas and winter tires. In the summer i hit 25. The awd doesnt help on that front.

    gotta watch the paint though. It sucks, hard. paper thin and really easy to scratch, at least the silver is.

    You cant go wrong with this car, except if you like to mash the fun peddle. Its a fast car. I cought myself doing 110 on the way back from jay and had no idea i was going that fast.
