This is hilarious, I was up at Stevens today, and there was some national PSIA instructors up there. They were skiing with the PNW directors, on big chief all day, making short radius turns right out the eighty's. All I could do is sit back and laugh at them.

Damn... very entertaining. Thanks for the link. HS is feeling fiesty...

They're harshing badly on Weems Westfield, my old instructor from the seventies He taught me a lot of good stuff at Taos in 77'. Funny, he was always talking about a toolbox of skill and styles for the mt. Seems that's still his mantra...

I know Weems, seems like a nice person to me.

PSIA is weak in my opinion.

PMS is a teaching system http://www.harbskisystems.com/ol3.htm and a monthly condition.

The best lesson in it is the one about skiing with a beanie between your ankles to keep your feet together. I didn't know anybody was still serious about this shit. I couldn't keep my ankles together on fat, shaped skis if I tied them together .

Ski-off rules: The ski-off is a challenge to test one's overall skiing ablity. I am the challenger, you are the challenged. As the challenged, you pick the route/line, and get to ski it first. I follow, and attempt to roughly match or surpass your route, skiing style and speed, for the entire run. Then I pick a route, I ski it, and you follow it, attempting to match or better me. Repeat until someone gives up, is injured, obviously can't keep up, or a tie is declared. There is no specific judging criteria aside from the above, and this competition is not decided by any single run or criteria - it is an overall test of if you can ski, or not. We can bring witnesses, and they can shoot video if you want. Bring a ski that will perform well all around on the conditions of the day.

Based on what has been said about my skiing ablity here on epicski, I am either a strong expert skier with un-definable technique, or a high intermediate with major backseat and balance problems........depending on who you want to believe. Any PMTS black skier should be able to make quick work of me.........or perhaps not. Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm pretty convinced that I can actually ski.....can you????
    Is he serial??

really I wanted to read the PSIA vs PMTS thread

but I just can't get through the fact that people would ACTUALLY sit around and have an argument over it

Skiing is skiing, the point of it is to go DOWN, the way you accomplish that goal has nothing to do with how much fun you have while doing it.

The people who over analyze just suck the soul out of skiing. Its supposed to be fun.
For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was

I just tried the PMTS kool-aid. I saw a video of that Harald Harb guy running gates and was impressed.

I got one of his advanced books. It came with a video. Harald Harb was skiing bumps, powder, groomers, etc.

There is NO FREAKING way I would EVER, EVER, EVER want to ski like that. How does such a 'modern' technique manage to look like skiing straight skis 20 years ago?

I'm with HS on this one...

I know this is more of a gapic post, but I can't be bothered to register over there.
