I've said this a million times before, but goddamn do I need to update this!!
I'm really glad that this is still helping people, and the basics are all still accurate, but I must say that I have learned a lot in the past 3 years of college racing. Even if I'm not a great racer, I still baby my skis, and a lot of my techniques have changed.
Anyway, I hope to update this by early/mid season.

bump because I was looking for info on structuring bases. I've heard of using sand paper, but that makes me a little nervous. Any experience/advice for using a brass riller bar vs sand paper? How about the frequency of structuring, like is this a once a season type of activity?
Also bump because this is still a nice basic reference to look at.

Update coming soon? It's past mid season and since you're not racing anymore...
Do you still like your Swix Xactor? Seems like the ability to get 0 to 4 degrees of bevel would be worth the extra money.

Haha I've been saying I was going to update this for awhile now, but I have finally made some progress on a brand new version.
I have ~20 new photos, and am about 50% of the way done with the text. So far its 15 pages in microsoft word, will probably be 20 when I'm done. Thus, I am going to make it available as a PDF for the full-text version w/all 20 photos, and will shorten it up for the forums.
Unfortunately, my college career is < 6weeks from completion, and I am unbelievably busy with all sorts of crap now, so this is not really a top priority, but I am working on it....
Nah, I sort of hate that thing now. After using better (metal) tools, I realized how horribly inaccurate that thing was, and have since stopped using it. But if you can find one for a good deal I suppose its not that bad.Last edited by dipstik; 03-25-2008 at 05:24 PM.

Nice tutorial....
One thing that I have learned to conserve wax is to paint the wax onto the ski after briefly warming it on the iron. Used much less wax and gives better coverage, IMO.
