This does really hurt, and is close to home.
I have talked with Doug a number of times at the ISSW, mostly about feild books, etc... But, we seemed to have hit it off, that he remembered me by name the next time. I'm sorry that I never got to ski with him.
I'll raise a glass in a toast to Doug tonight.

RIP brother...
Fvck fvck fvck fvck....Ughh!
Right to the gut.
Sad sad day indeed.
I'll never forget my La Grave trip even though I missed skiing with Doug by a day. On my third morning I was solo and riding the Téléphérique, eavsdropping on the conversation with my cabin mates while holding onto the dog that had hitched a ride in a cabin with a door stuck wide open. The ex-pats where beaming with the news that Emily had given birth that morning in Grenoble. It was a magical day.Last edited by truth; 04-03-2006 at 07:41 PM.

I feel sick. I am sitting here at work totally re-evaluating my skiing life. Right now, I never want to ski anything "extreme" again. In bounds alta powder is all I really need. I skied with Doug several times. We pushed it together. He and Emily are my friends. This hits hard.
Over the next few days there will be many stories told about Doug. I'll reserve mine for later. Right now I will sit here, heart broken, and send a million e-hugs to emily.
I don't know what else to say. He was SUCH a good guy.

gut-wrenching news. Doug was an unbelievable person and he was a friend to me and my wife. I will never forget his gigantic heart and boundless love for skiing.

Folks, it sucks he died...BUT, he died doing something he loves, and he didn't spend his life wasting away in a cubicle somewhere.
Doug lived more life than most could live in 10 lifetimes.
You rock Doug. May God be with your family.

This may be kinda early. But when somebody finds out maybe we could all pitch in for some flowers or something at the Funeral if somebody knows what it is at.
God it's still so unbelievable. I was even watching an old ski porn video where he was giving instruction on how to get your skis back on in steep terrain. A technique I use all the time.

Sometimes we think the big-name people are immune to the forces we all fear. Now we come to the realization that anything can happen to anyone at any time. He died doing something he loved..... may he rest in peace
