What's your cash to ski days ratio?

It seems like the more money i make the less i ski; without the need to reveal any personal salary shite, divide your gross annual income by your average days skiied a season.

for example; you earn USD30,000/year and ski 40 days a season, your ratio would be 750:1

    my current ratio: 4500:1
my former ski bum ratio: 168:1

Obviously, the less you earn and more you ski the lower the ratio. What is the optimun ratio? Should we factor in powder days?

Strange, but strangely fascinating as well. I've got stuff to procrastinate so I'll play. Mine's about 1500-ish at the moment, but does that really translate into this expression: endlessseason's_fun_quotient = 3(xyz) ?
Prolly not, but it struck me that way.

Well, if you look at actual days on real outdoor slopes, it's about $5000:1.
If you look at my spend per year on ski equipment and trips, that works out at $450:1

Last financial year, including investments (OK so that's pretty much all i got now) it was 66.6:1. This year I'm workin on 200:1. 150+ days/season helps though.

Dude, when you include this much info., it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how much you earned last year.

As for me, I will not divulge, as I don't want you to know how poor I really am.

    Another interesting question would be:

how much money do you spend on skiing:How many days do you ski?

I spend about $100 for every day I ski. This includes lift tickets, lodding, gear, plane tickets, everything.

Not a great comparison IMO. A better one would be taking the amount you spend on skiing per year and then dividing that by how many days per year to see how much you spend per day.

    for me
    pass 429
    random gear 400
    other tickets 200
    1 trip to utah 800

    $1629/~65 days = 25.06/day...... not too bad

without the trip to UT 12.75/day

for the other one it is 565:1

the optimum ratio? i guess we could look at how many more days you'd like to ski and how much money you need to be happy.

beyond a million dollars a year with 300 days/season. find your target days/season and reasonable income and that should be your optimum ratio (IMO).

    Mine would be 1800:1

1400:1 last year. Hope to be much lower this year. I don't count how much I spend on ski stuff, I might get scared.

I was about 20:1 last year, but then again I was in school and skiing 5 days a week sometimes, with no job.

Factoring in season pass price and gas (no new gear for several years), my money spent/days skied is:

    $7.50:1

Funny how that works, huh? But, just to to be the devil's advocate here, I bet there is a ratio of - the more money you make, the more variety of places you will visit to ski in a season. You may not get in as many days, but you are able to seek out better quality days by being able to travel easier (ie. afford longer trips, have better car etc.).

I can't look at it that way, way too depressing (8,000:1)

Back in the day I was around 240:1, and I was dirtbaggin it pretty good.
In college it was like 10:1, but I wasn't making jack. I just worked at the ski shop to ski more and hit on hot Toronto chicks.

For me, it is more realistic to add up how much I spend total on skiing, and divide by the number of days.

The problem is, there is no way to measure the quality of days or the length of those days skied. That is, after all, what is most important to me. I skied very few days this year, but got fresh snow on almost all. I also skied bell to bell every day out. I will take that type of season over most anytime.

Edit: 72 and I were on the same page. He just said it in a much better way.

I guess if you're stuck in some midwestern or east coast location that might be the case, but for dirtbaggers who live in, say, Salt Lake City, they'll probably end up with plenty of good days. Also, as much fun as it can be to switch it up and try out new places, I'd almost rather be at home on a good snow day because I know exactly where to go for the best shots.

I didnt keep track of days last year but I probably ended up with a number somewhere north of 60. And since my sole source of income last year was delivering pizzas and teaching lessons my ratio is somewhere around 150:1, probably a little lower.

Another ratio I think is interesting is vertical feet of ski area toproximity of ski area. For example I live a mile away from a ski hill but its only around 400 feet, so I would be 400:1.
