Somewhere I have a copy of the ski patrollers map which is fun to see. A lot of the more travelled areas have had stable names but some of the more obscure stuff seems to change with every new generation on the mountain.

Are you sure that's right Danno? That's the winter I started skiing Purg as well and I thought it was officially 666 then and for a while after, with the change to No Mercy coming during the DMR period (and then the current owner changed it back to 666 a few years ago). But my memory's fuzzy on a lot of things. (just found this article about it- it says changed to No Mercy in the late 90s https://www.durangotelegraph.com/new...ith-the-devil/). The tree run to the west of 6s with little cliffs now has an official name, "777."

My friends and I have coined a few but I don't think they've caught on- "Smokey Hollow," "Dreamsicle," and our usual return route back from lift 8, "Happy Ending"!

There's a line at OV called Hall of the Gods (not to be confused with HOTG near SLT and another one near Kirkwood.) I learned the name because that's what patrol told me when I asked where I ended up. I could't find again because I only saw it lying on my back staring at the sky and trying not to move.

That's all I ever skied when I was skiing wpk/mj, ha. His skis were on the tree where he died in a treewell, up fairly high. Lower skier's left of Topher's Trees.

I'm not sure, it's a long time ago and we're both old. My recollection is that it was never 666 while I was working there, but even if that's wrong, there's no way it was late 90s, I left in 1998, and stopped working at Purg in 1995, and it absolutely was "no mercy" while I was working there.

Edit: and if you read further in the article, it says it was because of Vince Duncan, which was not late 90s (the article even says he was late 80s-early 90s), which would fit with my memory. It was definitely not a Vern Greco thing.

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Good to hear. I was skiing that area during the storm cycle. Some of the best days I ever had there, it was so weird skiing that zone with all the patrollers and SAR looking for him.

I call it the Dog Leg Chute. Nobody that I know skis it but me. Last time I side slipped it in it’s entirety. So hello. Is it called the Dog leg Chute?

Apropos of this, we were having a great debate the other day about whether we skied pipeline or stovepipe. It turned out, it was pipeline, per internet information posted by skier666 10 years ago.

Pipeline is fucking dope. All of that is dope from west shore onward all the way over to round top.

So accessible and so rad in Spring.

Ottime posted some rad memories. That used to be my home. Thanks for that.

Dog leg… as in Round Top?

Round top’s dogleg used to also be called the sickle chute.

Thank you! Been too long since I skied Kirkwood with the crew.
Don't forget Maggot Chute -- the debatably OB entrance into the lower Cirque from 4.

Doesn't (didn't) Bridger Bowl have a book showing the names of nearly every line?

*edit: damn... it's an app now. Rad. http://www.stepping-up.net
