    West Couloir Story - Part 2 - TR

    Continued from Part 1

    A couple of days later and we are back up the Rond


    Once again heading for West Couloir


    This time we did get to the abseil in to the couloir


    But it wasnt in condition.


    So we just have these pics from the top pitch of the Rond

    it is a bitch to get into...either a down climb off the arete or an abseil off the bridge you can see...from this angle it looks steeper than it is...I think

    Anselme Baud's guide says:

    "The descent is a very good example of how to interpret data regarding the gradient of the slope. The centre and bottom of the couloir is given a gradient of about 45degrees, whereas the actual slopes that you ski on the left bank exceed 55degrees and the snow if often hard! In short, it is not a very attractive route..."

    I think that's understatement?
