TR CH - Eat'n smoke at Glacier 3000

Glacier3000 in the Alpes Vaudoises, CH. Feb.24th.
Fog in the valley, bluebird day up top.
-17 centigrade. High winds on the glacier's surface made it much more painful.
Knee deep, cold smoke powder in the combe d'Audon. All you could eat.

Telepherique up to the glacier. Looking back down at the mid-station and the fog in the valley.

The long traverse across the glacier. Lisa and TeleAl are getting ahead of me. Gotta catch up!

Ready to descend into the combe d'Audon from the glacier's lip.
We traversed just below the rock walls behind Lisa's shoulders.

TeleAl performing his civic duty; Extending the traverse line in the combe.

    TeleAl's lines.

    Scoping a new descent line.

TeleAl on another mission; descent into the knee deep cold smoke.

For me it cost 52.- CHF for 5 round trips. About $8.00 US for each round trip.
Each round trip takes about 1 hour to complete. TeleAl went on to make it 6 round trips in one day.
He was hungry for more of that cold smoke.

Can the cold smoke justifiably be described as knee deep if you're teleing?

From Botta (which I believe is at 3000m) to Oldenalp (1834m) it works out to 1,166 metres of vertical. For me, the traverses are an important part of the skiing experience. We do the traverse on the glacier w/o skins. Lots of skating, though.

From your point of view, the skiing begins at the lip of the glacier ~2750m to the traverse to Oldenalp lift. From topo map, my estimate is ~900m vertical.

Link to piste map included so you can see the route.

You are one sick puppy, LITT...

The skiing downhill seems nice, though.

The floggings will continue until morale improves.

Total vertical is somewhere around 1700m, from top of Combe to lowest lift.
The Combe alone is somewhere around 1000m vertical.

As for my community service, I worked on that traverse line for 3 days.
I pushed it farther each run.
In the words of a snowboarder, "Yeah, I tried to follow your traverse line, but it was little uphill at times."
My reply, "I intended it that way."

Got 6 runs in there, plus 2 times to the lowest lift, totalling some 8700m.
Last box up at 16h10, and I was the only one in there, plus patrol.
It was all mine. Day 53 was nice.

    Litt getting some.

    Litt getting some more.
