    spat-u-lette - now with pics

I've been working on some smaller Spatula's mainly for those who the Spatula is too big a ski but also for tree and narrow chute skiing for me....So far i have cut up and re-built/re-edged a pair of 170 Powder Pluses..they now measure 107-112-102...but this morning they still had almost normal camber...in Soft snow or chunky snow - Great fun, real easy to turn...in Bumps, better than my explosives....much better...on hardpack, so very very scary...unlike normal Spatulas which you just slide our turns, these hookup and rail unless being pushed into a slide....they will reverse carve, but they do this without asking, making the flater sections unnerving....they are currently clamped in reverse camber under a heat lamp.....I

If I get them finished they will appear at the Summit for folks to try.....

    pics later

    Update

I have partial reverse camber - about 10mm under the tip and tail....they should have more soon..

Testing today at the Lake...much easier on piste....not so twitchy, easier to pivot in the soft stuff....big lesson, don't let your guard down...I got bitch slapped to the ground, right arm sore, left shoulder sore......

    Construction pics

    before destruction

Edges removed, cutting the ptex away from above the edge was the toughest part of the whole job

File to shape, they don't look to different to the origional (overlapping skis)

You will bend and stay bent...BITCH

    testing, testing

Need to bend more and paint.

Would these be longer wider and more wildly ben than the current spats?

Awesome! I love crazy hack job skis. And the fact that they do the job... that's just great. I can only imagine your surprise at discovery the reverse carve effect Did you reuse the original edges?

Yes...the old (at least 10 years) Atomic powder plus has the strongest edge mounting I've seen in a ski or snowboard...it even has holes insted of notches which makes screwing them into place a breeze.

Why remove the edges? Will they not bend w/ the ski?

How you gonna reduce the tip and tail width with the edges still on?
