Shit, bad news from Silverton today?

Unconfirmed but I'm starting to read that a Female fell and suffered a head injury that she didn't survive. Hoping I'm wrong and everyone's safe down there. I personally know a lot of people in the hood this weekend and am a bit worried.

Anyone have info?

I just heard that from a friend who is down there today. Just that she fell, hit her head, rag dolled, accelerated and did not make it.

Scary news for sure.

Conditions did not sound ideal there from my friend. Boiler plate.

Maybe offering $50 heli drops wasn't such a good idea.

I was up there today. We were just about to do our heli drop when somebody got on the radio and said that they needed help. I didn't get much detail, but they were originally going to have a flight for life come and it ended up being called off. I can only assume that this meant that she did not make it They closed a big part of the mountain where the accident happened. The conditions were nothing short of awful today with a lot of people skiing super rotten snow.

Skier Dies in Fall at Silverton Mountain

A Denver woman died Saturday in a skiing accident at Silverton Mountain Ski Area.

Sydney Elizabeth Owens, 25, was skiing “Riff Run” as part of a guided ski tour by Silverton Mountain employees when she fell and slid approximately 1,500 feet before coming to a rest, said San Juan County Undersheriff Kristine Burns.

The accident took place at 10:06 a.m. during Owens’ first run of the day, Burns said.

Emergency personnel from the ski area arrived immediately to assist Owens but were unable to revive her, Burns said.

The ski area is for expert skiers. It has no groomed runs or cut trails. Skiers are required to carry avalanche equipment including a shovel, beacon and probe. The ski area also offers heli-skiing tours.

Very bad news. Hoping Sydney and all who knew her find peace.

Also hoping all the Denver mags are accounted for.

Shitty. I think this is the first death at the area? Vibes to everybody involved. That place was in rugged shape over New Years, couldn't have gotten much better since then.
