Sad day, it'll be different not seeing him in tram line this season. He & the JHAF made JHMR to what it is today.

My thoughts go out to his friends in the community and his family. What an inspiration, what a tragedy to lose him too early.

Here is a nice collection of memories from Howie's friends and Airforce members.

Howie Remembered by his Airforce Friends
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention to arrive safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: Wow!!! What a ride!"

Wow, after reading that, I just don't get it. 53? Gotta go hard every day, because you just never know when your number is going to come up.
My buddies and I still call the VC the "Bear Claw", I had know idea he used to own it. I know so many of his friends, it must be a sad day in the village.

    Condolences to friends and family.
I had some great brews, grub and times in the Bear Claw back in the day. Though I never met him, I'm sure Howie and some of the A.F. were around - the vibe was just right. And besides, who else could "those guys" around the hill be.
    RIP man!

Man, what a good vibe Howie had. I rapped with him about all things skiing the friday before labor day. He was so stoked to have just picked up his girl a new set of boards for winter - he was so fired up to give them to her - to share the love. His spirit and love for our mountain was infectious. RIP Howie, you were top shelf all the way, and will be missed by all who knew you.

Wonderful ceremony at the Village today. It really wasn't much about the Air Force or Howie's ski exploits. He was a much-loved man.

As we walked back to our car, my wife said to me "it's funny that we got to know him so much better today."
