Video: Larrabee South Face 1/27/11
Click on the picture to go to the samthaman's full TR:
Sam and I had the chance to make some new friends at the Winchester Hut, then the next day we got to check Mount Larrabee off our list. Our route took us up a pre broken skin-track on the west face then down a couloir on the south face. We crammed 8 people into the winchester Hut the night before the summit push. I had the chance to meet more skiers 8 miles in the backcountry than I had living in Maple Falls since the summer. Among the list of new friends was Jason Hummel, man what a character… Something tells me our paths may cross again. The trip worked out very well, we were down at Chair 9 gorging ourselves on a mountain of nachos and enjoying a victory beer before it even got dark.
Enjoy!Alcohol Caffeine Taurine Hybrid

That was sweet! How much vert?
I'm envious you can ski steeps like that mid-season without huge avy danger or super-thin, rock-hard wind scoured snow.

Well played sirs.

it's nice to see some quality Cascades stoke! I may live in the shadow of the Tetons now, but the Cascades truely are the best range in the lower 48, IMO.
choice music selection too. Love me some Muse

I would like the chance to get a little hucking in this winter but so far the snow has been much friendlier to ski mountaineering.
I am continually amazed by how expansive and awesome the cascades are. I have barely begun to dig into what is here to ski. After not getting to ski too many steep things last winter it has been awesome to get on some steep scary stuff. I feel the addiction taking hold all over again.Alcohol Caffeine Taurine Hybrid

Nice.
My dog and I hiked to that hut two summers ago, but we drove to the trailhead. Skinning that road must have been a long slog. Looks like it was worth it.
On a side note, if Jason is who I think he is, he's one hell of a freeheeler.

Skinning the road was true inspiration to buy a sled. I used to think I wanted to wait and get a decent sled, now I just want the cheapest POS I can get that runs. Skinning flat roads is for suckers!
Even Jason and his crew got a sled ride to the base of the switchbacks.Alcohol Caffeine Taurine Hybrid
