Perhaps the microwave weapon was impacting the deer/birds? Which then brings up the conundrum of why the son was the only one to be drastically affected by said weapon? I think the confusion and anomalies were probably just to underscore the unknown consequences of civilization's breakdown.

This 8-episode series seems like it woulda been shown on those channels as it’s literally soft-core porn masquerading as a black ops Mission: Impossible-styled action endeavor crossed with The Hangover/Bachelor Party-styled hijinx.
It’s cheesy and bad, but I could not stop watching it, mostly to see how over-the-top it would go. There’s full frontal, John Holmes shaming stunk cocks, catheter torture, coke addled camels, Elvis impersonators, glow-in-the-dark dildos, erotically inferred use of whipped cream, gratuitous beefcake, LSD induced gremlins, and C. Thomas Howell shitting himself. Yeah. You read that right.
    Stoopidly entertaining.

Finally got around to watching it (Buried) and really enjoyed it. For those who haven't seen it yet it is almost 100% interviews with those who were at AM at the time and contemporaneous news reports. 40 years later and it's still a raw wound for many who experienced it.

American Symphony was a beautiful documentary about Jon Batiste and his wife. Really well done with amazing music (as you would probably expect).

REBEL MOON - Part One: A Child of Fire
The spectre of The Seven Samurai, as filtered through Battle Beyond the Stars, lays heavy over Zack Snyder’s latest overblown “epic.” There’s ever-so-obvious nods to Star Wars, Dune, and numerous other sci-fi and fantasy films, as well as anime.
In short, nobody’s gonna accuse Snyder of originality in regards to his storytelling here.
Yet despite the thick coating of deja vu and the unabashedly earnest acting from all involved, there are momentary flashes of quasi brilliance. Some of the creature designs are pretty cool, as well as some of the costumes.
Not a great film by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s watchable enough if you can put up with an over abundance of lens flare.

I honestly don’t recall anything about Becerly Hills Cop 2 and am pretty sure I never saw Beverly Hills Cop III. And I am always skeptical about reboots and sequels that appear years after the original (BHC came out in 1984!!!).

All that said, color me semi-intrigued:

Daughter and I watched BHC a few nights ago and it holds up pretty damn well overall. I don’t recall BHC2 or 3 at all but my daughter was all in. 2 was still pretty solid but 3 was a struggle. Had some seriously weird over use of reaction shots. So much so that I was totally shocked the director of 3 was John Landis.

I’m looking forward to 4, mainly to find out how they explain why everyone hasn’t been retired from the force for at least 15 years already

The BHC scene where he ditches his tail by waiting at the stoplight until just before it turns red has stuck with me. Not like it’s the most brilliant thing ever, but at the right age shit like that hits just right. Any time a cop is behind me at a stoplight, I flashback to Axel Foley.

The action sequences are decent and I laughed out loud more’n once. Kinda bummed that I skipped it at the theater (stupidly I listened to the reviews, which largely wrote the film off as a mediocre, one note situational action comedy proving that most present day “critics” don’t know shit or they just don’t find Kreischer funny; I do).
YMMV, but it was worth my time and then some.

Finally got around to watching this (w my daughter). Started a little slow but picked up steam and definitely had some Oh shit! hilarious moments. Definitely recommended

    THE EQUALIZER 3
This is the best of the series, by far; it’s clean, lean, and mean with Denzel doing Old Man action waaaay better than Liam Neeson.
The story is familiar and doesn’t bring anything new to the retired Black Ops badass trope, but Denzel looks good in black, easily rivaling Johnny Cash, plus he does a good job kicking ass. He also has the uncanny ability to have chemistry with all of his costars.
Director Antoine Fuqua keeps it all bundled tight and the pacing is smooth and slick. The action sequences are cool and the whole film has that OG 1980s action film vibe, but with much better production values.
If this is indeed the last entry with DW, he and Fuqua are ending it on a high note.

    MEG 2: THE TRENCH
Sure, the CG is kinda shoddy and the story is cobbled together from a long list of films ranging from all the Jaws movies, to the crappy Jurassic Park sequels, the classic It Came From Beneath the Sea, along with DeepStar Six, Leviathan, Underwater, and Deep Rising. Plus a glorious dollop of Deep Blue Sea.
If you haven’t figured it out by now, Meg 2 is an unabashed B-movie which presents very little in the way of originality. Yet it’s kind of a glorious cinematic snack which revels in its ludicrously conflated imitation.
Helmed by Ben Wheatley, who is best known for quirky and cool cult offerings such as The Hit List and A Field In England, the story moves at a brisk pace so you have nary a minute to ponder the absurdity of it all. Aiding the director in keeping things afloat is Jason Statham, a man with a knack for turning even the most routine of action films into something watchable thanks to his shining pate and his lovably gruff ass-kicking manner. Additionally, both Cliff Curtis and Page Kennedy bring some nice comedic chops to offset Statham’s straight man.

So, yes Meg 2: The Trench is stupid...stupid fresh! (i.e. highly entertaining).

    Longer review here:

Watched Beverly Hills Cop last night - hadn't seen that one in decades. Agreed with everyone that said it still holds up.

On a side note, it reminded me how much I miss 80's era car chases. Minimal focus on outright speed and cars doing ridiculous stunts. Maximum focus on destroying a many cheap cars as possible. Zero CGI. No shaky cameras or fast cuts. Just good, honest destruction.

Also tried watching Rebel Moon a few nights ago. Made it about 5 minutes before I turned it off. I just can't handle Zach Snyder anymore. We kick the movie off with a plastic-y farmer babe who, after a long day in the field, has sweaty cleavage and immaculate hair. All the men have perfectly trimmed and utterly trendy beards. We cut to an interior shot where a viking dude gives a poorly written speech about how everyone needs to start banging. The movie is off to a fairly terrible start, and if Zach Snyder's previous films are a guide it's only going to get worse, so I checked out.

^I agree with you about RM.
    It is a horrible film.
I just needed some exceedingly mindless eye candy to mellow me out after several days of skiing machine made shit snow with a crew of 8 y/o’s.
    It fit the bill.

And the death of practical effects, especially car chases, has been a bane to the action film genre.

    MALIGNANT
Whoa, is this film a hoot.
I actually shunned it when it was in the theaters because I have not only been pretty underwhelmed by most of director James Wan's cinematic output, but also because trailer made the film look like every other Blumhouse horror film on the market.
    Man, was I wrong.
The film is a glorious 1980s inspired romp that mashes up myriad genres from detective procedural to demonic possession to evil doctors in a creepy sanitorium to serial killers and haunted houses. It also has some seriously gonzo action and some nifty practical effects, not to mention some really cool camera shots and photographic trickery.
Wishing I had taken a chance and seen it in theaters...

I'll queue up The Machine and Obliterated if this lasts more than a few nights.

Welcome to “The Club”; I tested + on the 2nd…

I’ve been binging Grizzy & The Lemmings mostly, but it might be high time for some good ole ultra-violence…

Might be premature here as I’m only 3/4 into the first episode, but I am enjoying The Brothers Sun.
Cliche and trope ridden plot, but taught action choreography.
