Moving to Paris...help me find an apartment!
Figure it's a long shot but someone here might have a connection to an apartment. I'm moving to Paris for an indefinite period of time (at least a few years). I fly in on August 19th...and need somewhere to live!
I really would like to be in the Canal St Martin, Oberkampf or Place D'italie areas of the city but would consider a good apartment in most neighborhoods...and I want to pay less that 1000 euros/month ideally. And obviously anyone who helps would have a free place to crash in Paris on the way to the Alps...

You gotta be kidding...
You're asking this in the middle of summer, as I'm flying away from town for the next 3 weeks.
I have no particular connection right now. Maybe a small one bedroom flat near Place d'Italie, (it belongs to someone I know and he may wants a new tenant) but nothing sure before september. What kind of flat do you need anyway ? Not to big I assume for 1000E/ month.
Pap is the best source for rentals. Other than that, try a major franchise, like century 21 or laforêt. Try Fusac too.
Be prepared to justify a steady income and to a beefy deposit.
Good luck."Typically euro, french in particular, in my opinion. It's the same skiing or climbing there. They are completely unfazed by their own assholeness. Like it's normal." - srsosbso

I don't need a huge flat, just somewhere I can cook and is fairly comfortable for 1. I'll be working from home, so would need at least a little space...prefer furnished because I don't know how I would get furniture there otherwise, at least not quickly...
I might just end up getting a temporary place for a month or two then really look at apartments when I'm there.
Thanks for the links, enjoy your trip, once I'm moved in I'll be needing to grab some beers...

Make sure you schedule a weekend at Mont Dore next winter. Clermont Ferrand is less than four hours from Paris and the steep skiing off the Sancy is the shit, I kid you not. Very low key vibe, very different from the big Alpine meccas.

If you are working from home, you are going to want to be able to close off your "workspace" from the rest of your apt. Trust me.

My wife and I found a place there pretty easily. But damned if I can find the website we used. It was in English and listed shitloads of apts by area and price etc. We paid more than market but that was the cost of not needing a big deposit, the transaction was super simple and we got what we wanted in short order with very little fuss (a small cheap box in the right area that allowed dogs - that was the easy part). We had a great time living there and will remember it forever. Landlord was great.
Those kinds of websites offer short term listings as well which allows you to get into town, and look for something longer term.
Google 'paris apartments'. There are loads of service providers. I just cant find the one that we used.Life is not lift served.

Right now all I'm finding in my price range is places that require huge deposits...hoping to get a non-agency place if possible, so any connection to an actual landlord would be ideal.

You have kind of left your run a little late for an outsider looking for an insiders arrangement.

Seriously though, I've lived in a few different cities over the years and nearly all of them started with some sort of pay-through-the-nose temporary accom. It takes a while to get a feel for a city and in every instance I was glad that I didn't lock something in from the other side of the world just to arrive and find it was a long term mistake. Get there first, then get settled. It can take up to 6 months.
And get some inline skates. Paris is the galactic capital of that that mode of transport. (I didn't submit)Life is not lift served.

My buddy's place is rented right now -- but he will let me know if it opens up. In the mean time, his wife is checking with her UN connections to see if anyone has something decent available.
