TR: The Real Skiing Begins
First off: Feel better mc_roon and get better in time for me to ski with you in January. Props to toby and whoever else was with him, sounds like you guys had it together from what soul said.
mc_roon the last time he was in the hospital:
now on to the fun stuff:
We've been back at the usual winter routine now and it feels great. Lots of time at stowe and elsewhere and a brief trip to the 'dacks. Its been a great week of skiing despite the finals. This TR is a little half assed, I'm still trying to finish up some school work.
watch allen's video before you look at the photos: (how do I embed?)
now the pictures.
lines that vanish by the end of the season are fun again
ahhh, back at the office for another season
no leaning over to make it look deep here:
here neither:
backcountry ben
allen taylor: professional ski tail stiffness tester
feels good to be home again
top down:
bottom up:
allen hard at work:
greg following his lead:
i don't have any particular beef with trees, and you'd think after spearing one last year, i'd have learned my lesson, but i just love skiing through them.
greg getting his, moments before the face shot sequence from the video
greg is now banned from the foliage skis for getting too many face shots:
don't be jealous:
and a few from the 'dacks, i'm hoping greg has more because i got cold and didn't want to take pictures.
the objective
taking the slow speed quad up...
anyway, hope I didn't waste your time. no humor for this TR as I'm still stressing on work, i'm officially done with college tomorrow though!!!!!

here is my perspective on the whole thing... what a week...
when you are trying to ski with the UVM boys, you find yourself waiting around a lot since they are always drunk and hungover and get to the mtn late. hence i take all sorts of scenics whenever i ski with them
stowek
okay well now that those dudes are here, that would be the end of my waiting game... time to play catch up!
sam dusting me
allen doing the same
sam getting sloppy seconds on allen's mosaic line from above
allen: "ugh... i dont know about this guys... i think i may be doing damage to the forest"
sam: "whatevs!"
this is what we worked for!
now framed in the "hourglass lounge" in the hotel across the street
before we left, allen wanted a nice picture of the mountains, so we gave him the camera. unfortunately sam and i can't help but ruin every picture we get into
then on friday it was supposed to snow... we got some rain on the tail end of the storm and it made for some wet snow... ben and i made the best of it though
backcountryben dropping in
and then getting his cement groove on
on friday night a deep freeze moved in, and we had heard tales of cold smoke in the adirondacks.... or maybe we just made that part up... in any case we decided to pile into sam's car and get over there to check it out. allen, K_C and myself met at 6... sam thought we meant 6pm and was a half hour late... oh well. the day went on
it was COLD. when the sun came up at rest area in VT near the crown point bridge a bit of humidity whipped through the air and some tiny lake effect snowflakes began to fall... trippy... ohhh...ahhh
then sam tried to make up some time and got... BUSTED
sam continued the pace regardless though, and actually did manage to make up some time. he had to hammer down on this unplowed road to do it, and we thought we were all going to lose our lives... but we did save a whopping 10 minutes!!
allen with "the point"
climbing over a big steaming pile of "mountain shit"... yum!
it was COLD.... i think it topped out around 4 or 5 degrees at the height of the day. it was LONG... the snow wasn't that deep, and some of us maybe thought this wasn't worth it... looking back on it though, i'm glad i came. the skiing was fun, and if we had a bit more daylight, and a bit more warmth i think we could have left with morale a good bit higher... oh well. good times.
sam skiing through his cold pinky finger
allen
AT even found a little drop
K_C enjoying the fruits of her labors
Colden at sunset from Marcy Dam... next time...(?)
thanks for looking!
see you EC'ers when i get back in January... UT, MT, and WY mags: hope to ski with a few of you over the next few weeks!Last edited by gpetrics; 12-15-2008 at 01:57 PM.

Fun turns. I would appreciate any constructive criticism anyone has on the film. I'm trying to get better at this.

So, since you guys are going on your road trip, and someone obviously has to provide the EC stoke, I think that yall should give me a vauge idea of where that stuff is so that we can do our part to make the East Coast look as rad as it is.

Powder snow skiing is not fun. It’s life, fully lived, life lived in a blaze of reality. What we experience in powder is the original human self, which lies deeply inside each of us, still undamaged in spite of what our present culture tries to do to us. Once experienced, this kind of living is recognized as the only way to live–fully aware of the earth and the sky and the gods and you, the mortal, playing among them. Dolores LaChapelle

Love the shot of the second cameraman on the pillow below. Looks like some sort of childhood fantasy fort.

Thank's for posting some real skiing. I am trying to get my son interested in college in the east. Seeing some real skiing helps make my case. Good action.
