Turning is Over-rated: Colorado Freeride Championship Pictures

Under bluebird skies today, the skiers at the Snowmass Freeride Comp went off! The maggots represented big time

First of was GoNads who picked a sick line and straightlined the entire venue!

GoNads eyeing her line at the top....

    Launching....

    Sticking it....

NO TURNS! She was going FAAAAST at this point!\

    Still not turning....

    Slightly resembling a turn....

Ok now a turn.......but wait, the finish is not over here!

GoNads, you turned off the course, GO BACK!

    Back on course.....and done!

And here is a long shot of her figure 11

We are still awaiting results but she is definitely looking at the 1 or 2 spot going into tomorrow.......

    On to the rest......

    GR droppin in....

    Over the edge....

    Landing....

    Onto the next drop...

2 pics of in between here were messed up by the sun.......booo

    And straightlining out of it...

    Shreddin down to the bottom.....

    Well earned beer.....

Z relaxin before his run......all of his shots turned out bad because of the sun at the end of the day......sorry man but it was nice meetin ya........he killed as well - did a nice double with speed I know he wanted to do another line but it was still smooth

This guy killed it off the diving board......launching....

Tight in the air.....brown pants blend into the rocks but you can make him out...

A little back in the landing....

    But he skis away

This was another local was rippin it - sent it through 2 trees but started to do an inadvertant backflip.....

Yeah this has got to hurt.....but he skied away too......

All in all a great day - way to go Maggots and Maggette for representing and best of luck tomorrow.......i will be working

This day convinced me that i need a zoom lens for my DSLR.....

    Hahaha, that's awesome!

Nice stick on the landing. That looks chewed and hard.

Not a line I would pick, looks like she landed on a rock

    Way to get after it!

Not trying to talk shit, but does straight-lining the entire venue really score well with the judges? Seems to me like its more relying on big, stiff skies then anything else.
Skiing, whether you're in Wisconsin or the Alps, is a dumbass hick country sport that takes place in the middle of winter on a mountain at the end of a dirt road.

Well, I broke my 192 thugs two days ago, and I'm skiing on Shredheads 193 big daddies. So yeah, I am skiing on big stiff "skies". I don't really like turning... oh well. I had a lot of fun and scared myself shitless today, which is why I do what I do. Would you rather I ski on 160 park "skies" like the rest of the chicks and do slalom turns?

And yeah, I landed on rocks, it threw me back a little, once I get the vid you'll see the flail, hehe.

Not saying that at all. I ski 186, so I'm certainly not supporting stubby, flimsy park 'skies'. I guess I just like turning, that's all!

That's what matters. Way to get after it, and have the balls to attack a choppy-ass venue like that. Are the finals tomorrow? If so, good luck!

Doesn't usually help line score that much, but if you are in control you can max out aggressiveness and control

    Way to kill it GoNads...

that entire crew heading north for the Jackson comp?

It didn't help my linescore at CB either... I took 2 decently sized hits and was waaaay down the list. Skiing pretty just doesn't do it for me, even if it is what the judges are looking for. This was waaaay more fun, and gave me a huge rush. I'm heading to Sun Valley for another 48straight skiercross during the jackson comp, then probably snowbird.

He must've won because he got a girl in his beer. And obviously with a killer hourglass figure since she fits through the pop-top.

This venue is VERY short, and it's a 1 hit wonder... unless you take it as a double.

I, too, in addition, as well, would also like to see the results, too, as well. Wondering how the CUFSTers did...

Nads, my heart is yours. That may be creepy and may rub another maggot the wrong way, but it is what it is.

    And nice line, G.R.!

(Looking forward to the shots from tomorrow, Raps. )

Jeezy, I told you you could rock that shit...

On a semi-related note, could someone riddle me the following, please?
Is this the "double-jump" line (if it even goes)? Dside and gang are talking about an 8-ft to 25-ft line as such, but I'm not quite sure where that would be...

Nice, Nads! I skied that line just to the looker's left of you a few years back, airing off the top rock then to the big one smack in the middle of the pic (that's what i was talking about, Max - not gonna do the paint shop for ya).

Say what you will about the Snowmass comp, if nothing else it's fuckin fun!

In other news, I bought my first knee brace today. FUCK. But I'm goin' BRAP'n tomorrow!

Powder snow skiing is not fun. It’s life, fully lived, life lived in a blaze of reality. What we experience in powder is the original human self, which lies deeply inside each of us, still undamaged in spite of what our present culture tries to do to us. Once experienced, this kind of living is recognized as the only way to live–fully aware of the earth and the sky and the gods and you, the mortal, playing among them. Dolores LaChapelle

So, I didn't qualify, but holy shit that was fun!!!!

I came over the rollover and was a few feet too far skiers left. I didn't landmark well enough but I got to ski a seriously rocky line, I was the only one to ski it, probably with good reason

Nice work guys. Too bad the new snow doesn't come till Saturday night. That area was skiing really nice a couple weeks ago.
