Well, you're right, and that's how we got it stopped. But not before much damage was done. The buildings were not "officially" listed as historic yet, so they were targeted and horribly damaged in the process of being torn down. My good friend is one of the rangers who took action against his boss, got the property listed as historic, and got the project stopped. Now he's an outcast at work, but he totally did the right thing by saving the area.

Sometimes the people who are supposed to protect the forest couldn't actually care any less about the forest they are there to "manage". It's just a job to them and the concept of actually maximizing the enjoyment of the individuals who use the forest is a foreign concept. She is too fat to get out in the forest anyway. Plus there are personal grudges that get acted on and crazy stuff gets through the system. People are human and can't resist the temptation to use their power to screw over an enemy no matter how it affects other users. I suspect that the whole attack on pot smoking was started in a similar way.

But like someone else said...if you can't get high in the forest without getting caught...yada, yada, yada...

Yeah, but at least he woke up to the sweet smell of ganja.

I disagree, bitching on the internet does accomplish endless entertainment.

My point of view.

Skiing is a family oriented activity at my little mountain. Families are important to us.

So, I would prefer it if my clientle that wished to spark up would go to a smoke shack in the trees and not be blatant assholes about their illegal habits.

Thankfully most do and for that I leave them and their smoke shacks alone.

For the most part.

Couple of weeks ago we had to alter our closures due to 1 smoke shack and the habit of its users to end up behind us on sweep.

Add into that, one of my patrollers didn't know about this shack, skied off the roof during a heavy snow storm and knocked himself out.

The end result was 6-2lb shots laced together with primer cord and voila! No more smoke shack!

Some of our locals are a bit bent out of shape about that action.

What they fail to see is, we are 100 % private land.

I wouldn't dream of building a tree fort on their land, and then leaving garbage around that fort.

Why do they think they should be able to build some crappy shack on our land?

Damn, that was kind of a cool spot.

you do not owe me an apology - like I said before, I do not hide the fact that I work for the FS - I am too low on the totem pole to really matter, and I am on my way out of the agency - I've probably pushed it here more than some might like, but I can live with that - I've had some very good dialog with a ton of Mags about the FS and VP, and I think that being relatively open here has made a difference in how some people view the FS at VP
