If you are marrying her because you are deeply in love with the most perfect person in the world and she makes all other women look like coyote turds, try the Mont Cervin Palace or Hotel Monte Rosa.
If you knocked her up or are marrying the first person who was ever nice to you, try the upper floor of the Hotel Bahnhof.Last edited by JoeStrummer; 02-08-2008 at 05:17 PM.

We stayed at the Hotel Julen in Zermatt for our honeymoon and loved it. 5 course dinners every night, insane breakfast spread, awesome staff, just absolutely perfect. We stayed in one of the suite rooms with sweet view of the Matterhorn.

All I have to add is Zermatt to me is the most beautiful ski area I have seen including US, Canuckistan, and SA. The town, Matterhorn, enormous glaciers all combine to make the place mind blowingly beautiful. Enjoy!

FKNA!!! Definitely Zermatt. Thanks for the positive reinforcement. Feeling real good about this, as is the Lady friend.... I mean fiance. No one said anything about the Water-Wonder-World!

Thread hijack:
You ever been to Argentina???
I can't imagine anything in Switzerland touching Argie Bife de Lomo. Yuuummm.
Now back to your Zermatt is schwanky and beautiful thread. One of the most fun New Years I have ever had was spent crammed into the central square dancing the night away drinking Champagne with hundreds of my closest friends while music blared. Something about those pesky open container laws would have made such a scene impossible in a US ski town.He who has the most fun wins!

if you want to have a memorable moon, do not go to zermatt, a place plagued by tourists. There are small spots in thye alps that are made for sex. La grave, alagna, macugnaga, leukerbad....

I'm with verbier here.
If I truly loved a woman, I'd feed her Italian food, French wine and get naked with her on a glacier high in the Alps.
Not that I get high or anything.

Says the guy who frequents one of the other Alps major schwanky expensive ski stations that can also be over run with tourists. Nothing wrong with Verb and I'm not comparing it to Zermatt, in fact it clearly has some of the best terrain around.
Ultimately it depends on what the guy wants. There are amazing aspects to the Alps huge ski stations and really cool aspects of the smaller lesser known places, but it depends on what they are looking for.
Pro's
-Zermatt is beautiful.
-The terrain is actually pretty awesome and people don't ski off-piste leaving the goods for us and it doesn't get tracked very fast.
-High elevation making it very snow sure in a fickle alps.
-The setting is freakin amazing with the Matterhorn, glaciers, many 4000m peaks surrounding town, no cars, etc
-If you want a posh great service hotel, there are a bunch to choose from that will be memorable.
-Lunch in Italy doesn't suck.
-Did I mention that the terrain is amazing, especially if you tour...
Cons
-It is also extremely touristy.
-The wind routinely scours everything to a solid hardpacked wind crust/buff -It will be expensive and you will see more furs, watch / jewelry adds than you need to ever again.
-Its not small, tiny, homey like some of the small Alpine resorts.
There is definitely something to places like La Grave, etc. that is really cool I'm going to wager that is not the "typical" couples dream honeymoon place, but again it just depends on the couple. There is no schwanky sweet hotel in La Grave. Town doesn't have the romantic pedestrian only feel of Zermatt. Yes, there aren't a lot of bars/restaurants leaving plenty of time for boning in your hotel room You won't have any wandering eyes since its 98% dudes.
For my honeymoon, if I was going to the Alps, and the lady wasn't a super hard core mtn moma that enjoyed a mtn hut more than a hotel, I would absolutely choose Zermatt.
Mrs. Comish votes for Zermatt for what its worth she definitely digs skiing, camping, etc.He who has the most fun wins!

Yeah, since my wife doesn't ski 50 degree icy faces, La Grave was kind of out of the question.

comish, I would never suggest verbier for an honeymoon.... the terrain is still pure sex, but I agree the resort itself is no more sex as it used to be some 15 years ago. Small spots in the alps might still have good terrain and a unique, unspoiled climate. Agree that LG has no cozy hotel for what splat suggested, but alagna, macugnaga and leukerbad have them....
in any case, it's really a personal preference issue.....

I would go to Val d'Isere over Zermatt for $$$fest
Better snow, better terrain, better food, as charming.
Zermatt is such a fur-ridden elderly shit show that it is about the last place I would want to go back to....it's like vacationing in a German retirement community. And the snow is usually shitty until mid/late season. And everything is so damn expensive.
