If anyone's in the Chicago area, I'm co-sponsering a Linkedin Chicago networking event on Sept. 17 at the John Barleycorn's in Schaumburg. 5 to 7 pm. Buy your own drinks and food. We will have change for a nickle.

Went to join and the whole site is temporarily down for maintenance.

Will do tonight/tomorrow and ask for change.

Question: Once you join the group does everyone in that group become a connection? Inquiring minds want to know.....

No. I believe I set it up so that you can contact everyone in the group, but in order to be a connection to the, you need to go through the list and invite each individual. You can do that easily, by clicking on the "Add as a connection" button, then choosing the group drop-down. I've added most folks as direct connections at this point (or invited them, anyway).

We're up over 65 members at this point.

If you were in the queue to be approved for membership, that should be cleared up now. I sort of neglected my duties as manager of the group, but all pending should be good now. Continuing to grow the group.

The group is up to 161 members on LinkedIn. Its weird. I'm not sure who many of the people are since I can't really connect them to their TGR screen names / aliases.

FYI, sometimes I only check to approve new member requests once in a while. If it seems to be taking too long to get approved, PM or email me.

No, I've just been too lazy and too preoccupied to check lately. You and three other pending requests have been approved.

    Bump!!!

Is anyone here using LinkedIn with any success? I'm looking to network, but I'm not really sure the best way to go about it. Just join a bunch of interest groups and start posting? Anyone have any tips?

I hadn't been on to approve new member requests in a few weeks. Of the 10 requests that I approved just now, fully 40% were women. I suspect that's not representative of the overall maggot population.

hitek, I use it mostly to connect with people in companies that I'm interested in speaking with / connecting with. It is a great sales tool and a great job search tool.
