Mudfoot talked me into test driving a pair of Keepers. They were fun so I got a pair. Love 'em! We've wondered why is there a lack of general love for the Keepers on TGR?????
Hart doesn't get much notice either and might be worth a look for some. Yesterday was a firm to icy day and something like the Hart Pulse or Phoenix would have been fun underfoot.Last edited by Alpinord; 02-08-2013 at 07:28 AM.

You clearly are not a very good judge of quality. Have you ever put a true bar on the bases of some of these skis you are taunting as the best quality or felt the non-smooth, rough and railed edges? Go ask someone that tunes a lot of different skis about quality. If you want to only purchase skis made in the USA, I'm all for it. But the notion that something that comes from China can't compare on quality to something made in the US is extremely ignorant. Sure, there are lots of crap product that comes from China, but there is also the highest tech and best finishing anywhere in the world. It's just up to how much money and time the manufacturer wants to spend for said product.
Look at bikes. If you look at the welds that are on bikes that are now made in China or Taiwan versus the welds coming from their older bikes in the US, the Asian welds are much cleaner.
And if you are going to beat that drum, don't wear outerwear made in China. Don't wear Patagonia, which is arguably the highest quality in the world with some of the best eco-friendly practices regardless of the location of the factory. Don't buy Apple. Don't be a hypocrite. Cut out all consumer goods manufactured in China and I would bet as a whole, you are paying more for lesser quality.

Try working at a firecracker or shoe factory in china and living off $1300 month. Also smog and other issues. But yeah it's a necessary evil, just try to buy from the US when possible. Ski quality overall is better in US for sure IMO
Also the wood quality is better in US due to ecological issues mentioned
US carbon is better grade-aerospaceI need to go to Utah.
Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?
So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

fascinating thread.
if you have the choice to buy equivalent goods, of equivalent quality, for the equivalent price, why would you not buy local/domestic. but if there isn't equivalence amongst these factors, then it comes down to your own personal values.
i would rather pay a little more for something made locally/domestically, if the quality is the same. i would never sacrifice quality to save a few bucks, and i would never sacrifice quality to buy locally either. that said, i would try to help my local dudes to get the quality there, so it does make sense for me to shop there.
on3p, moment, et al make skis as nice as anyone, and to be honest i was blown away at the relatively low level of fit and finish of most of the kastle, blizzard, and volkl skis that were at SIA. massive sidewall chatter, double and triple closing line gaps, edge seam gaps, resin fills at sidewall seems, etc.
however, by far and away the worst skis i have ever seen, ever, were either made in the US, or "designed and qc'd" by US folks... without question, and i think most folks that tune a lot of skis would agree.

My outerwear is Spyder based in Colorado. My phone is Vertu based and manufactured in London. My skis are Moment Bibby, Moment Jag Shark, ON3P Vicik, and will be purchasing Praxis Powder Board next month. My grocery is Whole Foods. I'm paying more for way better quality that you're too ignorant to even know of. I'll let the quality of the items mentioned above speak for themselves. And again you go about here talking about bikes. We are taking about skis you genius! Bottom line: US made skis vs Chinese made skis; US skis prevail. End of the story! Most ppl will agree here. Move on and keep buying Chinese products

Your Spyder is without a doubt not made in Colorado. Your Vertu douche phone may be assembled in London, but the guts are generally Nokia, and made in China. Who fucking cares if you shop at whole foods. Just shut the fuck up. You tanked the whole point of your conversation by exposing yourself as a massive toolbag. What kind of fucking idiot buys a Vertu anyways?

ahahahha this shit is hilarious
First of all 70%+ of the $$$ of a product made in china and shipped to the US stays in the US. Shit from China is good for the US too.
Beyond that gotta remember different strokes for different folks. I don't really care where your skis are from but if your going to get up on your high horse and act like a douche that isn't cool. Buy what you want but don't think that makes you a better person by default.
Skis are not really all that important in the global sense, deep chip infrastructure, telecommunications equipment, large infrastructure equipment, etc that kind of shit is worth getting your panties in a bunch. You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistling bungholes, no spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistling kitty chaser?

I never argued that just bc I value American made products and I take pride in supporting locals somehow that makes a better person.
Someone argued that just bc China makes iphone and other high tech products and gadgets, they make good skis too and ppl are being ignorant of that fact. I argued that regardless of the quality of skis like K2, Volkl and other skis manufactured in China they are not as good as American made skis such as Moment, ON3P, and Praxis in their quality. They are just not as durable and their performance does not mount up to of that of the Americans.
The other guy challenged me by saying then I shouldnt buy Chinese made product such as Apple and Patagonia and I replied with examples of what I buy implying I try not to buy Chinese products as much as possible unless the quality in that product is unmatched by others. I have my reasons (one of them being that I'm very pro USA) of why I try not to buy Chinese products as much as possible but I never contented that that makes me a better person or that I'm better than others.
And finally I addressed the ugly dude who is appearantly pissed off bc I slept with his girl since he's a hater and has nothing better to do but to hate on Spyder, Vertu, and Whole Foods.

For someone who can't read properly you seem awfully uptight about speaking proper english.
And you forgot to tell us about those cheerleaders, having problems with your short term memory to as well as the penis complexes?

"You wear Spyder" what's ur point??... Again the main argument is: US made skis (Moment, ON3P, Praxis)vs. Chinese made skis.. I'll take US made skis any day. I'm sure a lot of people will prefer the same. Seeing that US flag on my Moment skis right before I snap in my boot on to the skis is something I don't expect you to understand... But you're entitled to your opinion and preference, so hey I'm all for let's agree to disagree

Spyder is ghey. and the suit you are wearing is probably made in China. FAIL. You haven't touched or skied anything made in China, and it's obvious you don't even know what flat bases are. Put a true bar on your skis and let me know if they are flat. Look at the edges and let me know if they are polished, or if there are nicks along the edge because they don't even know what a ceramic polisher is. How's the sidewall finishing? Do you know what a sidewall is? How about the structure of the base? I know this is beyond your grasp, so whatever...
