A little CO goodness: Indian Peaks TR

Sorry, not skiing- just hiking. However, it is snow, and its in September. My girl and I went up to hike one of the peaks under Audobon- but we were turned back by 40-50 mph winds and some nice, hard hail. We did get to hike in the snow for a few hours though- we went about 4 miles, 1500 vert on the Mt. Audobon trail. There was 2-3" at the trailhead above Brainard, and up around 12,000 feet there were drifts anywhere from 12-18". Here are some pics:

A bit of color mixed in with the snow:

And finally, on the way back to Boulder, we stopped once on the side of the Peak-to-Peak for an aspen shot. The colors were pretty prime, as evidenced by the photographers on the side of the roads:

That's quite a bit more snow than I saw. It was coming down on Saturday late morning around Guenella Pass.

Nice shots... I climbed Huron yesterday, which had about 8 inches up top. Pretty cold and windy with the wind chill on the summit hovering around 0 degrees. Some of the east facing couloirs were even buffed out with some styrofoam! The Refrigerator Couloir on Ice Mtn was also filled in thinly. Gotta love the contrast of the golden aspens, blue bird sky and the white stuff!

LC, Nice shots. We were a little farther south on Saturday. It was so much fun to be hiking in a blizzard. The feeling of frozen cheeks is a welcome sign of winter.

Here are some from our day:

Give it another 3 feet and these are some of my favorite trees

Nice shots...thanks for sharing. Glad to see the snow is starting to accumulate, I was hiking in lake Gibraltar area of the Indian Peaks two weeks ago and could definitely feel the snow in the air.

    Nice shots!

We hiked the Paiute - Audubon loop yesterday; it was windy (and COLD!) up there for sure. This is at the summit of Audubon:
